Why WhatsApp Will Remain Smartest Messaging App for the Decade

WhatsApp was founded by two former employees of Yahoo, Brian Acton and Jan Koum in 2009. By January 2015, WhatsApp was the most popular messaging app globally with more than 700 million users.  The latest figures show WhatsApp now has over 800 million active users. In February 2014, Facebook bought WhatsApp in a deal worth £11.4bn. At the time Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, was quoted at the time as describing WhatsApp's services as "incredibly valuable".

WhatsApp, the messenger App for Smartphone, which enables users to exchange messages free of charge, has been around for some time – but what’s making it so popular? Many would say it’s the app’s ability to connect friends on different networks and devices, seamlessly and without cost.  As well as being able to send free messages to your contacts you can also create group chats to involve several friends and contacts at the same time, but as well as messaging WhatsApp also allows you to share images, video and audio messages, all for free and totally unlimited. This is possible as WhatsApp uses the same Internet data that as email and web browsing. A WhatsApp profile has the facility to upload a profile picture as well as the being able to update your status, and advise contacts whether you are available or busy meaning it’s the ultimate way to contact your nearest and dearest. However, many would cite WhatsApp’s ability to constantly evaluate and add to its service offerings as the reason it continues to ensure complete domination of the messaging market in present and for future.

WhatsApp Introduced Voice Calling - Why?
A newly introduced feature to WhatsApp is voice-calling. WhatsApp Calling lets you call any of your contacts via the WhatsApp App for free. Fantastic news for people with family and friends in another country as international call charges can be very expensive. The new feature has been rolled out slowly over the several weeks and is now available on Android and iPhone. It is also now officially been released for BlackBerry 10.  WhatsApp Calling uses an Internet connection rather than your mobile phone calling plan minutes. Although it is worth considering that some data charges may apply. The latest version of WhatsApp also has a search feature that allows you to search for messages and chats with just a single tap of the search option within your chat lists. It is simple to make a WhatsApp call. You just have to open the chat for the contact you want to call and simply press the phone icon on top. This shows as an incoming WhatsApp call to your contact, which they can answer exactly the same as any other call. Obviously the call can also be rejected in exactly the same way any call would be. Your contact will see your WhatsApp profile picture on their screen. One point to note in is that you cannot use it to call 999 or any other emergency services using WhatsApp Voice Call.

The Future

With WhatsApp's popularity continuing to increase on such a huge scale, it is highly likely that they will continue to experiment with more and more new features in the coming months and years.
After the successful roll out of the WhatsApp voice calling, industry experts are speculating that the company may also venture into video calling. Video Calling is something that SnapChat have already been experimenting so it is expected that that WhatsApp will be looking into this too – leaving no stone unturned for the messaging giant.
